Counselor-In-Training (CIT) & Lifeguard-In-Training (LIT) Summer Leadership Program

ABOUT THE CIT/LIT PROGRAM

You are never too old for summer camp!!  Our Counselor-in-Training (CIT) & Lifeguard-in-Training Leadership Programs are for energetic and motivated teenagers (ages 14 to 16; entering 9th grade through entering 11th grade) who want to learn and develop leadership skills working with children in a camp setting, while still getting to enjoy all the fun activities and friendships of summer camp. This program is designed so that CITs/LITs develop leadership skills through direct supervision, regular conferences with leadership staff, and a hands-on experience engaging with campers. The goals of this program are: to provide teens with training and skills to become effective leaders, improve self-confidence, provide a meaningful opportunity to assist children in a camp environment, create an opportunity to excel at handling a reasonable amount of responsibility while at camp. This will help prepare these teens for future work experience and to help build their resumes, to motivate our CITs/LITs to be effective role models resulting in a fun and productive summer.

*LITs will also be trained in the skills necessary to pass the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification Program.

CIT SUMMER EXPERIENCE AT CAMP

During the summer, CITs engage with campers under the close supervision of leadership staff and the camp director. One main goal of this CIT Leadership Program is for the leadership staff and CITs to develop strong professional interactions where the CITs learn, and continue to improve, their leadership skills each day. CITs are encouraged to be hands-on and are grouped with campers based upon age and ability/experience. CITs are also required to write daily journal entries pertaining to their camp experiences, and these entries are discussed at weekly conferences between fellow CITs, leadership staff, including, at times, the camp director. These “conferences” are a great way for leadership staff and the camp director to provide constructive feedback, helping them to improve their leadership skills.

Under the supervision of our experienced staff, CITs assist campers with camp activities, help with organizing materials and supplies, think creatively, share ideas, and act as positive role models for campers. CITs are very hands-on, are generally grouped with younger campers. CITs may help campers do things like master footwork techniques on the tennis court, create unique artwork, develop friendships, assist in conflict-resolution, assist with swim, and much more!!

*Candidates that successfully complete the CIT program and apply to work at Oasis will get a $50 bonus in their summer pay!!

LIT SUMMER EXPERIENCE AT CAMP

During the summer, LITs engage with campers under the close supervision of leadership and swim staff. One main goal of this LIT Leadership Program is for the leadership and swim staff to develop strong professional interactions with LITs.  LITs are encouraged to be hands-on and work with campers to help them become better swimmers.  LITs are also required to write daily journal entries pertaining to their camp experiences, and these entries are discussed at weekly conferences between fellow LITs, leadership and swim staff, including, at times, the camp director. These “conferences” are a great way for leadership staff, swim staff, and the camp director to provide constructive feedback, helping them to improve their leadership skills.

Under the supervision of our experienced swim staff, LITs assist campers with developing their swim skills.  They will learn how to provide swim instruction, as well as develop the skills necessary to become American Red Cross certified lifeguards.
