The Program
The Oasis Hempstead's Promise program will be based at Hempstead High School and serves children in grades 6-12. The program will also have access to the schools' athletic facilities, playgrounds and gym.
Oasis Hempstead's Promise will provide children with a traditional summer camp experience that includes sports & recreation, visual & performing arts, instructional swim and a travel component that is designed to take advantage of the enriching activities in the Long Island area. For families seeking a fun, safe and enriching summer program, Oasis Hempstead's Promise offers children an experience that is unrivaled by even the most expensive day camp programs.
Eligibility
Only children who will attend A.B.G.S. Middle School or Hempstead High School in Fall 2010 are eligible
Trips
At Oasis Hempstead's Promise, children have the opportunity to go on trips. Children travel on yellow school buses to attractions of interest and educational value.
Meals
Oasis Hempstead's Promise Campers are provided breakfast and lunch through the Department of Education Food Program.
Staff
We are a mixture of teachers, college students, coaches and program specialists. Our adult to child ratio is approximately 1:5. Each group of 15-20 children has 2 group leaders. An additional staff person, a specialist, runs each specific activity in which the children participate. A team of Division Leaders act as supervisors and every site has a nurse or EMT as well as a team of certified lifeguards. Oasis senior staff members participate in trainings throughout the year and college undergraduates have the opportunity to take an in-service training course during the summer for which they can receive up to four college credits.
Program Dates and Times
Oasis Hempstead's Promise will operate on weekdays, from the end of July 5th - August 20th . The program is free, funded through a State grant to provide quality academic enrichment, arts and recreation programming.
Oasis runs a FULL DAY from 9am-5pm. Families can drop their children off at Hempstead High School directly. Morning drop off begins at 8:30am and afternoon pick up is by 5:30pm.
