Halloween Season: 4 Ways to Get Spooky

October is upon us which means Halloween is right around the corner! It’s a wonderful time for children and can be for parents as well. With the costumes, candy, and festivities surrounding the holiday, there are a number of ways for your family to get ready for Halloween season. Here’s how.

Make Your Costume from Scratch

Halloween season means breaking out those costumes! But if you and your family want to get really creative with it, you can even make your costume from scratch. Not only is it fun, but it’s a great bonding experience for parents and children alike.

When making your costume from scratch, your family can figure out a theme of your attire and get to cutting and stitching! And you’d be surprised at what household items you can use to create your ghostly visions.

Have any old white bed sheets laying around? Perfect for a ghost costume!

Balloons? Become a piece of bubblegum!

Yarn? Go for the Rapunzel look!

Prepare Your Halloween Decorations

halloween seasonOf course, is it really Halloween season if you don’t decorate your house? Some essentials include spiders, gravestones, pumpkins, and ghost-like decorations.

Like costume-making, once you decide on a theme, you can get to decorating! We find that decorating indoors is nice, but it shouldn’t be too crowded unless you’re having a Halloween party (which we’ll discuss later).

Once you’ve got your house decorated, it’s time to move on to decorating outside. This part can be trickier because more people will see it than just those who live nearby. If you don’t want visitors looking at an empty yard with no lights or decoration at all, make sure there are some spooky things up!

If you have a yard, there are some great ways to decorate it for Halloween. If you’re lucky enough to have trees on your property, consider hanging spider webs from them—they’re simple but effective! You can also hang paper bats or ghosts from branches if they’re high enough off the ground.

Get Your Candy Ahead of Time!

This goes without saying! Halloween season is all about the candy, but you want to make sure to get it ahead of time. Not so far in advance where the candy will go bad, but there’s a nice sweet spot to get candy while avoiding the flood of people at the stores.

Of course, can’t go wrong with the chocolate, candy, and of course the candy corn!!

Plan a Halloween Party

Of course, Halloween season can’t be complete without a party! Gather your friends and family for a spooky celebration at your home. You can have spooky-themed dishes, like these nifty Jack-O-Lantern Quesadillas! You can also have games readily available to play. Most importantly, you can’t forget about the costume contest!

Plan well in advance. If you’re going to have people over and spend time preparing food and drinks, make sure to plan your party at least a month before the holiday so that everything will be ready on time. You can even use the handy-dandy Guestimator to plan your food portions accordingly with your party!

Make sure you have enough space for your guests. If you don’t have enough room in your house or apartment—or even if you do—you’ll need to find some additional space if possible, like an outdoor patio or backyard area where everyone can hang out comfortably without being cramped together indoors. You may even want the kids from next door over as well (if they don’t mind) since it’s always more fun when there are more kids running around getting excited about Halloween!
