Aquatics Program

At Oasis Day Camp at LIU Post, we take great pride in our swim program. Utilizing the indoor, temperature-controlled salt water, eight lane competitive sized pool in LIU’s Pratt Center, and within our supportive environment, campers of any ability are challenged to improve. Campers are split into small groups of same aged campers with similar abilities. Our swim Instructors stay with the same group each day they have instructional swim. The ratios are typically 1:5 or better for our early learners and slightly larger for campers as they advance. Group counselors are assigned as assistants to the swim instructors to make the camper to staff ratio in the water about 1:3.

At Oasis Day Camp at LIU Post, we believe swimming is one of the most important life skills a camper should learn. We take great pride in teaching campers how to swim through the American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim instruction program. Whether your child has been swimming for years or is a fearful beginner, our nurturing staff of trained, Nassau County Certified lifeguards and experienced American Red Cross Water Safety Instructors (WSI) will be able to teach your child new skills and new levels of confidence. Our aquatics staff will guide and challenge swimmers of every ability as they advance their strokes and skills each day.

Campers from Nursery to 5th grade will receive a 30-minute instructional swim period, Monday – Thursday. Fridays will be a 30-minute recreational swim.

Campers in 6th and 7th grades will have the option for a 30-minute recreational swim on the days they are at camp.

Our Teen Travel campers will be off campus on full day trips most days. If they are on campus for any extended period, they may have the opportunity for a recreational swim period. This will be communicated by the Teen Travel staff during the summer.

Horseback Riding Program

Horseback riding is available for campers entering the 1st through 5th grade for an additional cost.

Oasis at LIU Post campers have an option to take horseback riding lessons at North Shore Equestrian Center, one of the oldest facilities of its kind on Long Island. The center has been operating at LIU Post for over forty years, and their experienced team of horse trainers and staff provide lessons to campers at all levels. Kids learn the basics and gain confidence, while also having access to one of the largest indoor arenas on Long Island.

Campers entering 1st to 5th grades will have 3 options:

  1. One 1 hour lesson during the week you choose – $105.00
  2. Three 1 hour lessons during the week you choose – $265.00
  3. Five 1 hour lessons during the week you choose – $450.00

You can sign up for any of these options while your child is enrolled in camp.

Riding helmet, boots or hard-soled shoes, and riding pants or jeans must be supplied by the family on riding days.
